Dr.Nachiket Shankar to the audience. Then the guest speaker started with his guest lecture on
“From over load to understanding: A strategic approach to learning anatomy”. It was an
interactive session where the students learn the importance of various methods used in anatomy
to study & remember the key concepts. This was followed by vote of thanks by Dr.Yogesh D.

Hulinayakar, President of Shridevi Group of Educational Institutions.

The 16th State-level Pediatric Intensive Care Conference is being organized on September 13th, Saturday at 11 a.m. in the auditorium of Shridevi Medical College and Research Hospital, Tumkur. The program is jointly hosted by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) Critical Care Chapter (KAP) Karnataka Chapter, Sree Siddartha Medical College, and Sree Siddaganga Medical College’s Department of Pediatrics, with Shridevi Medical College and Research Hospital.

Speaking at the event, Dr. G.V. Basavaraju, President of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, said that over the last 25 years, pediatric critical care has grown immensely in treating infants in life-threatening conditions. For a doctor, experience is vital, and timely decision-making is crucial. This conference must shed more light on reducing maternal and newborn mortality and improving children’s health in the future.

Dr. Raman M. Hulinayakar, Medical Director of Shridevi, explained that the conference workshops were held over three days, with participation from more than 500 senior pediatric specialists. It was a proud moment to see participation from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, as well as districts and taluks across Karnataka.

Dr. Ashok C., President of IAP, expressed pride that for the first time such a pediatric care conference was being held in Tumkur. He highlighted the significant support extended by Dr. M.R. Hulinayakar, President of Shridevi Group of Institutions.

Dr. Kumar, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Sree Siddaganga Medical College, noted that many senior pediatricians from across the state and various districts had participated at the invitation of IAP. Events included e-poster presentations, paper presentations, “Critical Care Insight” sessions, debates, and quiz competitions.

Dr. Chandan C.K., the Secretary, said that experts from both India and abroad participated as resource persons in this conference. A grand banquet was organized at Ashwini Ayurvedic College, graced by renowned film actor Sharan as the chief guest, adding charm to the event. A musical performance by the band “Staccato” entertained the audience.

Purpose of National Nutrition Day:
The main objective of celebrating National Nutrition Day is to create awareness about the importance of proper nutrition for pregnant women, infants, and children. Adequate nutrition and a balanced diet help ensure good health for both mother and child.

Importance of Nutrition for Pregnant Women:
If the mother maintains good health during pregnancy, the child will also be healthy. It is essential to consume iron, calcium, protein, fruits, and dairy products. Timely intake of nutritious food and sufficient water is also necessary.

Importance of Nutrition for Children:
Proper food is crucial for the growth of children. Protein-rich rice, pulses, milk, eggs, fruits, and vegetables should be included in their daily meals. Beyond just filling hunger, nutritious food supports the physical and mental development of children. If mothers and children consume such a balanced diet, their overall health, immunity, and future growth will improve significantly.

Immorality corrupts society: Sri Yogeshwarananda

The event was jointly organized by the Shri Durgaambika Temple Charitable Trust and the Shridevi Educational Institute. It featured the conferment of the Shridevi Ramana Maharshi Award–2025 and the book release of Gottahalli Sri Anjanappa Swamiji and His Legacy authored by Dr. K.R. Kamalesh. The program was held on Saturday, September 6, at 11 a.m. in the auditorium of Sridevi Hospital.

Inaugurating the program, Sri Yogeshwarananda Mahaswamiji said: “By abandoning moral values and falling into materialistic pleasures, India has unfortunately acquired the stigma of being a deeply corrupt nation. Yet, many saints and great achievers in this land remained illiterate in worldly education, without ever stepping into formal schools. This reveals the true strength of India—that knowledge makes one truly great. Every person has two sides, but it is the inner fragrance of character that elevates one’s personality. The life of Gottahalli Anjanappa Swamiji stands as the best example of this truth.”

Retired DYSP and former president of Sri Siddaroodha Math, Hubballi, Mr. D.D. Malagi, spoke on the occasion: “Just as Swami Vivekananda introduced Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa to the world, it was B.P. Revanna who, as a devotee and disciple, tirelessly served Gottahalli Sri Anjanappa Swamiji—who had lived a hidden life—and introduced him to the spiritual sphere of our land. Revanna and his entire family dedicated themselves to Swamiji’s service until the very end.”

Guarantee Implementation Committee Chairman and former minister H.M. Revanna said: “Some vested interests are trying to encroach on the land belonging to Gottahalli Sri Anjanappa Swamiji Ashram. I will hold discussions with the government to preserve it as the rightful property of the Ashram. Along with this, I will strive to elevate the Sridevi Group of Educational Institutions into a private university.”

Speaking on the occasion, Asagodu Jayasimha, President of the Karnataka State Brahmin Development Board, stated: “It is because of Maharshi Vyasa and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar that peace, coexistence, and equality have grown within our society.”

Presiding over the program, Dr. M.R. Hulinayakar, Founder-President of the Sridevi Group of Institutions, said: “For a good society and healthy living, noble ideas and the messages of the Guru tradition should be spread through spirituality.”

National Eye Donation Fortnight 2025

“Every individual should decide to donate their eyes after death. It is essential that media, awareness programs, and schools-colleges carry this message to society. Actor Dr. Rajkumar showed us how those who lose vision undergo immense suffering, which makes us realize the true value of our eyes. That is why, just as the saying goes ‘Netra Dana Mahadana’ (Eye donation is the greatest donation), personalities like him have guided society through their act of eye donation,” said Dr. Raman M. Hulinayakar, Medical Director of Shridevi Hospital.

The awareness rally on the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight (Aug 25 – Sept 8) was jointly organized by the Ophthalmology Department of Shridevi Medical College and Research Hospital, Tumakuru District Health and Family Welfare Department, and Tumakuru Ophthalmologists’ Association. The rally was held on Thursday, Sept 4, at 10 a.m. from Town Hall Circle to Amanikere.

District Surgeon Dr. Assar Baig said: “After death, the human body is either buried or cremated; the eyes too perish. But if one donates them, many people suffering from blindness can regain vision and get a new lease of life. Offering light to those living in darkness is considered the greatest service. It is not merely donating a part of the body, but igniting the lamp of hope in someone’s life. Eye donation reduces both economic and mental hardship in society. Those who lose sight often lose jobs and independence, but just one donor can restore their self-reliance.”

At the event, Dr. Lavanya, Ophthalmologist and Trustee of Shridevi Charitable Trust, said: “Just like actor Puneeth Rajkumar, we too should pledge eye donation. Eye-related problems are steadily on the rise in India. Statistics show that over 20,000 to 30,000 new cases emerge annually. Corneal blindness cases are continuously increasing.”

Dr. M.S. Sanjay, President of Tumakuru Ophthalmologists’ Association, said: “Millions in our country have lost sight due to blindness, and one can’t imagine how difficult their lives are. After death, the body perishes, but eyes, when donated, can give vision to many. Today’s medical technology makes it possible for one donated eye to benefit up to five people. While people hesitate to donate even when alive, after death, one decision can bring sight to ten people. The Government of India has introduced several schemes to eliminate blindness, and it is a matter of pride that Shridevi Hospital is participating in this noble cause. Such initiatives are vital to spreading light and reducing blindness in our society.”

Secretary of Tumakuru Ophthalmologists’ Association, Dr. Dinesh Kumar, added: “Our slogan ‘Karunaalu Ba Belake’ (‘Let compassion bring light’) means that if we donate our eyes after death, we can bring brightness into another person’s life.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Praveen Kumar, Ophthalmologist at Sridevi Hospital, said: “Usually we often talk about organ donations like the heart, kidney, or liver. But eye donation is equally important. Except for infants under three years of age, eyes can be donated after death by anyone, but this must be done within 4 to 6 hours, otherwise they cannot be used. With modern medical advances, earlier one eye could restore sight only for one person, but now one eye can benefit up to three people. Such progress is remarkable.”

The program was attended by Dr. Harendra Kumar, Principal of Shridevi Medical College; Dr. Mohan Kumar, Medical Superintendent; Dr. Pradeep Kumar Vegi, CAO of Shridevi Hospital; Dr. Kallesh, Ophthalmologist; teaching and non-teaching staff of various departments; and large numbers of students.

A continuous education and training programme for doctors, titled ‘Cardio Shine, was held at the District Collector’s Office premises. The workshop targeted district-level and taluk-level government doctors and was inaugurated formally by District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. E.N. Chandrashekhar, in the presence of distinguished guests including District Collector Mr. Padmanaban and Dean of Tumakuru Medical College Dr. Chidananda.

During this event, experts emphasized the increasing prevalence of cardiac diseases owing to changing lifestyles, and highlighted the critical need for doctors to be updated on advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques for cardiovascular conditions. The workshop, conducted as part of CME (Continuing Medical Education) 2025, featured live demonstrations on state-of-the-art emergency measures and diagnostic tools.

The program saw the participation of over 60 doctors, who received certificates at the end. Prominent speakers included renowned cardiologists Dr. Narasimha Rao, Dr. Bhargava, Dr. Kiran, Dr. Nandini, and Dr. Venkatesh. The subjects covered ranged from preventive cardiology, management of heart failure, to the latest international treatment guidelines and technologies.

A special highlight was the emphasis placed on regular screening and early detection of cardiac ailments. Experts pointed out that nowadays, heart-related conditions are being seen even among younger age groups, and stressed the importance of prompt treatment and awareness for reducing cardiac emergencies.

The program concluded with District Health Officer Dr. Prakash noting the importance of such regular training sessions for improving the skill set of doctors, thereby resulting in better patient care and advanced healthcare services in Tumakuru district.
