World Tuberculosis Eradication Day Rally 2025
World Tuberculosis Eradication Day Rally
On March 24 (Monday) at 10 AM, a public awareness rally was organized from the Shridevi Nagar Health Training Center to Kuripalya under the joint auspices of the Community Medicine Department, as part of World Tuberculosis Eradication Day celebrations. The event followed the 2025 TB eradication theme: "Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver."
MLA G.B. Jyotiganesh inaugurated the rally and addressed the gathering, emphasizing that tuberculosis is curable if treated in time but can become life-threatening if ignored. He warned about the emergence of new viruses post-COVID and noted that tuberculosis, though less discussed, still affects a significant number of people. He highlighted that even in advanced countries like the United States, around 300,000 TB cases are reported annually, with over 30,000 deaths. Given this context, he stressed the importance of health awareness and praised Shridevi Medical College for its efforts in this direction.
Speaking at the event, M.S. Patil, Director of the Human Resources Department at Shridevi Hospital, pointed out that isolating TB patients and providing proper treatment can lead to recovery, but increasing social awareness about the disease is crucial.
Dr. P.M. Ravish, Head of the Community Medicine Department at Shridevi Medical College, spoke about drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB), which requires prolonged treatment. He emphasized the need to spread awareness in the community about the disease.
The event was attended by Ambika M. Hulinaikar, Trustee of Shridevi Charitable Trust, along with several key officials, including T.V. Brahmadevayya (Administrator, Shridevi Institutions), Dr. Pradeep Kumar Veggi (CAO, Shridevi Hospital), Prof. R.K. Muniswamy (Principal, Shridevi Nursing College), Prof. S. Usha (Principal, Sri Ramana Maharshi Nursing College), Prof. Amba (Principal, Sri Dugamba School of Nursing), Dr. Narayanaswamy (Faculty, Nursing College), and students from Sridevi Nursing College, Sri Ramana Maharshi Nursing College, Shridevi Paramedical College, as well as medical students, teaching, and non-teaching staff.
