Overview of the Department:

The Department of Community Medicine imparts medical education and training to undergraduate students about the global public health scenario and that in our country. It involves planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of various health care programmes and activities in the field practice area in the Rural Health Centre and the Urban Health Centre postings. It conducts student seminars and group discussions on regular basis to build the skills of the students. It involves students in family study in the field and various student projects to encourage them in health research work. The department work on conducting research in the field of Public Health.

Facilities:

The Department of Community Medicine has classrooms and demonstration halls are well equipped with LCD projectors and latest audio-visual aids with a capacity of 150 students. Laboratories facility with a seating capacity of 150 students for conducting practical sessions. Have ample collection of latest edition of books in the central library along with charts and demonstration aids. There is a Rural Health Centre and an Urban Health Centre for community exposure of students, and practical teaching & training. Various services are implemented through these centres like Immunization and antenatal care available in government programmes and projects. There is availability of departmental vehicle to transport students and staff to the field practice areas for educational purpose, health surveys and departmental projects. Rural Field Practice Area-Covers a population of over 15,000 spread over 3 villages namely Kora, Ramagondanahalli and Kestur in the rural area of Tumkur taluk.
