Oncology - Pain And Palliative Care

Pain And Palliative Care

Pain and palliative care department has a centralized programme that is characterized by pain management services, other disease and treatment related symptom management measures and psychological support systems. The overall goal is to deliver a wholesome care to the patients who need palliation of symptoms where cure is unlikely. The departmental activities are carried forward to a phase beyond hospitalization and extend for periods ranging from few weeks to several months. For terminally ill patients the palliative care begins well in advance and extends as bereavement counselling of the relatives of the patient.

An Interdisciplinary team consisting of Oncologists, palliative care physician, counselors, nurses, rehabilitation specialists and social workers delivers the care. Efforts are made to integrate the family members in to the scheme of things. There are plans to commence home care for sick patients.
