The White
Coat Ceremony for the first-year MBBS students of the 2025–26 batch of Shridevi
Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Hospital was held on 4th
November 2025, Tuesday at 11:30 AM in Hospital Auditorium. This momentous
occasion marked the formal induction of the newly admitted students into the
medical fraternity, symbolizing their commitment to the noble values and
responsibilities of the medical profession.
The
programme commenced with a soulful invocation song, followed by a warm welcome
address delivered by Principal, Dr. M. L. Harendra Kumar. This was
succeeded by the Lamp Lighting Ceremony symbolizing wisdom and
enlightenment. Dr. Rekha Gurumurthy, Vice Principal introduced the significance
of the White Coat Ceremony. The session continued with an inspiring address by Medical Director, Dr. Raman M Hulinaykar,
who also administered the Charak Shapath to the newly inducted students
and also he emphasized that they can contribute to building a healthier and
more humane society by cultivating punctuality,
efficiency, and sensitivity to human suffering throughout their medical
education. He encouraged the students to embrace discipline, compassion, and
responsibility as they embark on their journey in the medical profession.
The Chief
Guest, Ashok Dalwai, IAS (RTD),
Chairman, Karnataka Agricultural Price Commission, and Chairman, Institute for
Social and Economic Change, Bengaluru, emphasized that the medical profession
is one of continuous learning and service. He highlighted that the white coat stands as a symbol of the medical
fraternity, constantly reminding doctors of their duty, responsibility,
and commitment toward patients and society.
R. Rajashekar, Deputy
Secretary to Government, Private Secretary Hon’ble Chairman, Karnataka State
Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority, Bengaluru, who graced the occasion
as the Chief Guest, remarked that wearing the white coat is not merely a
ritual, but a powerful symbol of responsibility, integrity, and service. He
emphasised that the roles of teachers and doctors hold a special place in the
medical field, shaping the future of healthcare. He further reminded the
students that their achievements are the result of the dedication, sacrifice,
and hard work of their parents, and urged them to honour this by upholding high
values and striving for excellence.

Hulinaykar Sir, Chairman of
Sri Shridevi Charitable Trust, Tumkur, presided over the ceremony, noted
that this year nearly 12 to 13 lakh students appeared for the medical entrance
examination, and only about one lakh secured admission to medical colleges. He
congratulated the students, acknowledging that their selection reflects their
hard work and dedication. He emphasized that medical education is a continuous
journey of learning, and students must strive to gain meaningful knowledge
every single day over the next five years. He advised them to cultivate
discipline through regular study, sincere effort, punctual class attendance,
and respect for teachers and elders. He also reminded the students that
compassion and empathy are fundamental to the medical profession, urging them
to respond to patients with kindness and humanity at all times.
The
felicitation ceremony honoured the distinguished guests and achievers of the
institution. Ashok Dalwai IAS
(RTD) and R. Rajashekar, were felicitated in recognition of their
gracious presence and inspiring words.
Dr. Nalini,
Professor of Pathology, was also felicitated for being appointed as the Secretary of the Indian Medical Association
(IMA), Tumkur Branch,Karnataka State for the year 2025–26, marking a
proud moment for the institution.

Technology, Dr. Lavanya Raman Trustee, Shridevi Charitable Trust & Professor
of Ophthalmology, Smt. Ambika Hulinaykar, Trustee, Shridevi Charitable
Trust, Dr. Hemanth Raj M. N, Vice-Principal (Admin) graced the occasion
with their presence and felicitated the chief guests.
Heads of
various departments, faculty members, students, and parents also graced the
occasion with their presence and active participation.
